Recycling Services

Parkes Counil is pleased to provide a Recycling service to its residents. Recyclables collected from your home will be made into new products. Paper into cardboard packaging products; plastics into new bottles, compost bins and pipes; glass bottles and jars into new bottles; steel and aluminium cans into metal sheeting.

Your participation in the recycling service will result in saved landfill space, maximum recovery of resources and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Following collection by a designated recycling vehicle, the recyclables will be transported to the J R Richards & Sons Material Recovery Facility in Orange. This brand new plant combines state of the art mechanical and human processes to segregate the mixed recyclables into various categories for sale to reprocessing companies.

Hints and Tips for Easy Recycling

1. Things that can be recycled include: newspaper, cardboard, office paper, magazines, junk mail, glass bottles, jars, steel and aluminium cans, aerosols, juice and milk cartons as well as all plastic bottles and containers marked 1,2,3,4,5,6 (no lids).
2. Do not put plastic bags, film, ceramics, ovenproof glass or general household in your recycling bin.
3. Make sure all lids are off all containers and drain out any liquids.
4. Domestic waste only in your garbage bin. Never place the following in your garbage bin:

• Car motors or parts
• Hot ashes
• Oil or liquid waste
• Chemicals
• Large tree branches
