Links to Local Landcare GroupsLast modified: July 10, 2006 - 1:54 PM
Parkes Shire Council has been pro-active and leads by example in encouraging a strong Landcare ethic in the Parkes and Districts Landcare community. Not only through supporting the activities of Landcare Groups but by incorporating these principles into Council practice. Parkes and Districts Landcare and the Parkes Shire Council work as a team to address local environmental issues. For the past ten years, the Council has shown commitment to the committee as well as the individual Landcare group members. Council's Director of Infrastructure is an active member of the Parkes and Districts Landcare Steering Committee. The Council prepares budgets and additional financial statements for the efficient running of the committee. The smooth transition into the new financial year and the implementation of GST was an example of the high quality assistance received by the staff members at the Council. Since 1996 Council has sponsored a vehicle for the local Landcare Co-ordinator based in Parkes Shire. Council also frequently provides venues to facilitate various Landcare meetings. The Parkes Shire Council Tourism Officer worked closely with the Parkes and Districts Landcare Co-ordinator to develop the successful submission to host the NSW Landcare Catchment Management Forum in Parkes in 2001. The proposal confirmed the strong endorsement and support Council provides to Landcare activities in the region.
